Opening in Madrid, find us on Lagasca Street

After almost two years, we're brave enough to reopen a store selling our products in Madrid . We'd like it to be an embassy , a delegation of our way of feeling, thinking, and living, which, from Galicia , and for over two hundred years now, we've been trying to bring to other latitudes.

Times aren't easy, but they've never been for entrepreneurs and emigrants . And in Galicia, we know something about that desire for improvement, the search for the unknown, and the longing for what's been experienced. That's why we're coming back .

We aim for this store to be a unique, distinctive, and evocative space . A space that captures the spirit and genuine atmosphere of our factories . A space that brings customers and visitors closer to the artisanal component of all the SARGADELOS porcelain manufacturing processes. We strive to capture the essence of our work by using original furniture and tools from our production plants as decorative and functional elements.

We've also taken great care with the location of the premises, selecting a prime spot in the heart of the Salamanca district . The premises were formerly the carriage passage of a stately building constructed in the 19th century. It is located at 25 Calle Lagasca . Its architect was the Marquis of Cubas , Don Francisco de Cubas y González-Montes, whose most notable work is the Almudena Cathedral .

The space measures 195 m² and respects the building's distinctive features : high ceilings , iron beams and columns , and its wooden structure . Maintaining the building's formal characteristics as much as possible is one of the main ideas underlying Isabel López-Quesada 's philosophy, the best possible ally for the creation of this space. She says: "I don't try to fight against the space and the architecture, but rather to enhance them. The work and the place speak to you." And here, she has delivered.

For the furniture , we used original work materials , used for many years in our factories. It was developed by us and for us, so it conveys and recalls the function and characteristics of its effective use in the workplace.

The wooden shelving (native Galician pine) comes from the old mold and die warehouse at the El Castro factory. These dies are one of SARGADELOS ' most prized assets; we must preserve them with great care because all the molds are created from them, which has allowed, and continues to allow, the serial reproduction of our characteristic shapes over the years.

Casting tables , the process in which the porcelain paste is shaped, have a table surface almost two meters in diameter. They have a rotating central axis that facilitates work, since it is not necessary to go around it; instead, the table brings its entire perimeter closer to you.

We also wanted to recreate with original elements another of the most important processes in our production, the firing , when the porcelain paste finally becomes the noble material of great thermal resistance , shine , whiteness and translucency that make it exceptional.

In this case, the Madrid gallery connects with the outside world through its display windows , featuring a fundamental element of our kilns: the wagons . These wagons, carefully loaded with porcelain pieces , continuously enter and exit our kilns at a temperature of 1,400ºC . The pieces on display are continuous kiln models , and their design is original to our factory, adapted to the specific requirements of the kiln at the SARGADELOS production plant in Cervo .

Another of the star pieces that has traveled from the Sada plant is a beautiful wooden cage that was part of the reception area at one of our production plants. What stands out is the way this unusual element defines the store space .

The potter's wheel is also a tool that speaks volumes about its purpose. The clay is shaped using continuous central rotation , a method typical of traditional pottery making that allows for perfectly symmetrical radial volumes .

We would like to stay in Madrid for many years , where a large number of Galicians have come seeking the cosmopolitan feel of a big city and improved living conditions . And they have felt comfortable and welcomed. Because Madrid is an open, respectful, and free city .

May fate be kind to us all.
