Sargadelos legacy

SARGADELOS has decided to market a new manufacturing line that combines two very important concepts for us: sustainability and tradition .

Our demanding production process generates, after grinding and decanting , a significant amount of leftovers or raw paste that, although it does not meet the quality standards of SARGADELOS porcelain , does maintain qualities such as hardness , resistance and nobility .

Investigating to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing, we have thought about reusing these leftovers , no longer waste, creating a new production department that studies and subjects such resources to an adaptability process that allows the formation of ceramic objects .

Recycled pasta is created in the following way:

The water used to clean the materials used in porcelain reproduction is diverted to settling wells . There are settling wells for the paste and for the colors; these tanks collect semi-solid residues at the bottom.

Ceramic paste settling pits accumulate mainly quartz , feldspar , and kaolin (raw materials for porcelain). When the pits are very full, they are filtered, and residues of the porcelain paste contaminated with iron and other materials are obtained. This semisolid is then made into a paste, which is then adjusted to the missing kaolin content to give it characteristics that facilitate reproduction using the casting technique .

When this paste is vitrified , it results in a dirty white , contaminated with particles to which recycled pigments from the settling wells are added in order to obtain a colored paste .

The vitrification of this recycled porcelain is carried out at the same temperature as normal porcelain, 1400ºC .

We had to set up this new research and development department in a space away from the main production area to avoid possible cross-contamination . Because this is a very unstable paste that requires constant supervision , production of these pieces is limited , so each figure in this project is unique .

This first SARGADELOS LEGADO collection is composed of five shapes and six pieces : the Bowl , the Plate , and four Vases in three sizes. The same shade of off-white paste has been used for all the shapes, and a blue-tinted paste completes and distinguishes the set, used in the colored version of the small vase .

These are tones that remind us of the employees in the early days of porcelain production in Cervo (Lugo) .

It shows a marked inspiration in the forms of artisanal pottery , which was obtained by working on a wheel , not far removed from the current manufacturing method used to achieve the radially symmetrical volumes of these pieces.

We have decided to call this new porcelain , exclusive to SARGADELOS , SARGADELOS LEGADO , as it recovers marks and stamps from the first productions of the 1820s that now take center stage in the decoration of the pieces .

It evokes and recalls our historical past , of which we feel heirs and which has allowed us to become one of the main porcelains in the world .

We are opening a window to the future with the launch of this new product line that reconciles our history and our commitment to the concerns of our time .
